The three major scholarships we award are:

Willie Mays Scholarship
named after the major league baseball legend who was inducted into
the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1979. This scholarship represents outstandng achievement at the
highest levels of academic excellence.

James W. Thigpen Scholarship named in memory of James W. Thigpen who was an entrepreneur, businessman, philanthropist, past president and one of the founders of our chapter. This award
is symbolic of Mr. Thigpen's pursuit of excellence and is the highest scholarship award presented
by our chapter.

Dr. Carlos R. Sledge Scholarship named in memory of Carlos R. Sledge, MD, PhD who was a distinguished member of our chapter and a leading Bay Area physician, scientist, businessman, and
civic leader. Each year, the Health & Wellness Committee awards this scholarship to students who are embarking on careers in medicine, health care, medical research, or public health.

The 100 Black Men of the Bay Area consists of a group of leading African American men in business, government, technology and public affairs dedicated to helping African American youth by providing scholarships and mentoring. In addition, we also promote health & wellness, entrepreneurship, networking and economic development in order to improve the quality of life for all in our local communities.
